| Young Farmers Club of Ulster (YFCU)
The Young Farmers Club is an association of local clubs run by the young for the young. It provides opportunity for friendship and achievement. The Young Farmers Club must include no fewer than 10 people of the age group 12 to 25. It is a non-political organization that is open to anyone regardless of the ethnicity, religion or professional occupation. All you need to do to become a member is find out where your local club is and contact its members. The organization is controlled by the members. The club’s hierarchy consists of a leader, a secretary and a couple of office bearers (elected for a period of 1 year). These people along with its members organize the affairs of the Young Farmers Club. Each club meets around four times a year and organizes events in their county. The office bearers along with committee members are elected by ballot and a report of which is made by the secretary and the treasurer. The reports which contain the names and addresses of the officials are then sent to the head-quarters. Activities of the club include group debating competitions. The Young Farmers Club gives away the duke of Edinburgh award each year. Each club is allowed to take part and the representative of the club provides the award scheme to the members. The award is given away in 3 categories: Bronze (for those above 14) Silver (for those above 15) Gold (for those above 16) The award takes into consideration the following sections: 1. skill 2. service 3. physical recreation 4. expedition There is a residential project which is an additional requirement for those attempting the gold award. There are junior clubs for those in the age group of 12 to 16. They can appoint their own officials but a senior official assists them. |
